It was an unusual scene in the 600 block of East Main Street in Brownfield. There were dozens of neighbors surrounding a home, which itself was surrounded by police and crime scene tape. The street was flooded with people searching for answers.
Just after Noon Tuesday police had found the bodies of Jesus Contreras, 70, and Rosa Contreras, 63, inside the house.
Brownfield Police Chief Tony Serbantez says it was a possible domestic dispute between the victims and their son-in-law, Jose Roel de Luna, 42. Serbantez says de Luna had shown up at the house looking for his estranged wife, the Contreras' daughter.
Witnesses told police de Luna sped off in his car. Not more than an hour later, DeLuna was dead. He was killed in a crash three miles west of Plains on U.S. 380.
DPS trooper Brian Witt says de Luna had veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a tractor trailer. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
